Write for us
We welcome thoughtful pitches from writers who can help readers see a film or an aspect of film craft with fresh attention. Send proposals through the Contact page rather than submitting a full article without agreement.
What we welcome
Pitch criticism, close readings of a scene or sequence, accessible explanations of film craft, and considered pieces about how films tell stories. We value a clear point, specific examples and a voice that welcomes curious readers without talking down to them.
What makes a strong pitch
Tell us the working title, the central idea, the film or films involved and why the piece will interest our readers. Explain what details you would examine and what your approach adds. Keep the proposal focused and mention any relevant connection or interest that could affect how readers understand the piece.
How to propose a piece
Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option, then identify your message as a writing proposal. Please send a pitch rather than a completed article, and do not assume a proposal has been accepted until you hear back.
A review should show its working
A verdict is only useful when readers can see the reasons behind it. We look at the choices on screen and leave room for viewers to disagree.
